lundy island

If you are looking for an unforgettable adventure from your day trip then Lundy Island is the one for you with a boat ride across the seas to take in some beautiful wildlife.

With ships sailing from just down the road at Bideford Quay, a trip to the beautiful Lundy Island is the perfect way to truly have an unforgetable experience.
Lundy Island may be just a mere three miles in length and half a mile wide, but it is packed full with a fantastic selection of experiences and wildlife for visitors to enjoy.

A walker’s paradise filled to the brim with stunning unspoilt scenery, make sure you do not forget your binoculars for a day of puffin spotting.
Lundy is in fact Norse for Puffin and with a name like ‘Puffin’ Island it is no wonder the largest single island colony of seabirds in southern England have chosen to settle there and make a permanent home.

For those of you looking for a real treasure hunting challenge, Lundy Island has 27 hidden letter boxes. Letter box packs can be purchased from the island shop. By following a series of clues you can try to discover each letter box across the island, and rubber stamp your pack with the postage stamps at each site.
However, some letter boxes are rather remote, and some are continually being relocated, so it can be quite the challenge to complete in a single trip!

Established as Britain’s first Marine Conservation Zone in 2010, Lundy Island boasts an incredibly impressive collection of rare seaweeds, sponges and corals.

Due to being situated perfectly within major migration paths, the island has an abundant bird population, many indigenous, others merely passing through.
If you are really lucky you may spot some of Lundy Islands seals and dolphins whilst travelling to and from. Due to their playful nature they are known for their love of chasing the visiting boats as they land and leave the island.
